Top 3 Books of 2015

topSince I only managed 31 books this year, several of which were re-reads, I’m going to list my top 3 newly read books of 2015.

1) Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Spaceships, invasions and fighting and a deadly virus.  Additionally this book is told through use of chat logs, interview transcripts, etc.  Funny enough, this one didn’t even receive 5 stars on my Goodreads page, yet the ending of it as so good it made up for the lacklustre start and I have not been able to stop thinking about the book since. Triggers for suicide and violence.

2) Poison study by Maria V Synder. The first and the best (so far) of the Study series.  The lead character was to be executed for murder but was offered a job as a poison taster, a job which would eventually kill her.  The book is about her trying to escape the job and the secrets she is trying to hide from those in charge.  Triggers for violence, kidnapping and the like.

3) Death note, volume 1: boredom by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata (Illustrator). The first Manga I have read and a good one to start with.  Interesting concept and characters and a strong start to the manga. A notebook is dropped into the human realm which gives the owner the ability to kill people people.  What will it be used for? Triggers: none that I can think of.

Honourable mention: Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J Mass. I felt this couldn’t be part of the list as I read 3/5 of it in the middle of 2014 and only finished it in 2015.  This is a series of 5 novellas following the main character of the Throne of Glass series.  However you do not need to read that series to read this book and the novellas add a lot to the series.  The Assassin and the Desert is my favourite of the bunch.
