The Book We’re Buying Now

I found this important post and thought other bookish people committed to diversity would like to learn more, share and support this movement!

BUY BOOKS TOGETHER. CHANGE PUBLISHING. CHANGE AMERICA.

If 25 people buy the same book at the same time, it creates a blip on a sales chart.

If 250 people buy the same book at the same time, the blip grows.

If 2,500 people buy the same book at once—or 25,000—an industry starts paying attention.

If 250,000 people buy the same book, the writer becomes a major figure. If we all buy books twice a month, every month, a movement is built.

The Book

Trayvon Martin’s murder shook the country, but if he’d been a woman or gay, would we know his name? In this memoir, Mychal Denzel Smith educates himself and us about how the usual ways of talking about race blind us to gender, sexuality, and mental illness and limit our understanding of the problems we face.
